Fitness bands and fitness equipment or more specifically free weights have certain similarities. They both offer sufficient resistance training because both provide certain amounts of resistance. Aside from this, both free weights and bands do not restrict movement and they both allow exercises to be done faster or slower depending on the requirement of the routine and the individual. Both fitness bands and weights can also be adjusted to allow for higher or lower resistance.
Although there are those that believe exercise bands are less effective in providing proper body conditioning and toning compared to weights. This is perhaps because bands do not look as formidable as free weights, studies show that, in fact, there is no difference in the amount of muscles activated and the force in which these muscles are worked at whether you use fitness bands or free weights. There is also no difference in the improvement of muscle strength and size and the reduction of body fat.
Workout bands are easily available and a lot cheaper than free weights or any other high-tech gym equipment. They are durable and very versatile plus there is no need for any form of maintenance. Because these exercise tools are lightweight and less bulky compared to free weights or other types of exercise tools, it is very convenient to use at home or to bring along when you travel. Some brands of elastics that are made of latex, however, may not be advisable for those with latex allergies but latex-free elastics are available in the market.
